Why You Need Interfolio

I was sitting in my advisors office and we were talking about the people who I had as recommenders for medical school. I told him that I was using Interfolio to collect my recommendations even though I didn't know for sure when I would apply. He then told me a story about one of his mentees. She was getting ready to apply and mentioned she was going to submit a recommendation from a certain professor. He then told her how said professor had passed away. Luckily for her, she had already had him write it and she had access to it!

Long story short: it never hurts to collect recommendations earlier because life happens.

Pros of Interfolio Dossier (the upgraded version):

1. You can send your letters directly to AAMC

2.They quality check you letters; making sure your name is spelled correctly, there's a letterhead, hand signature and all that jazz. V helpful because right before I was about to send, I learned my OChem professor spelled my name wrong :( . Luckily Interfolio emailed her and she resubmitted before I even had a chance to tell her about her own mistake.

3. You can track who has and hasn't submitted their letter

4. You can collect unlimited letters (I think)

Cons:

1. The upgraded version cost 50$ per year. I'd only upgrade when you are ready to actually use the letters. You don't need to upgrade to have professors submit the letters.
